Advancing the Cancer Cause for Canadians
Every April the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) celebrates Daffodil month in partnership with thousands of volunteers, donors and gifted researchers from across the country. The Daffodil, a symbol of hope and courage – has long been connected with CCS and their commitment to fighting all types of cancer. With 1 in 2 Canadians touched by this disease, there is a role for us all to play.
On April 4th, HALO CEO Paula Roberts joined CCS staff Including CEO Lynne Hudson and families touched by cancer, to visit with Prime Minister Trudeau in honour of Daffodil month and to talk about the need to consider all aspects of of cancer care – medical, psychological, emotional and practical.
Sabrina Moreino, a 22 year old cervical cancer survivor and Tyra Montgomery a 13 year old brain cancer survivor, heroically represented the strength of the cancer community, as they spoke with the Prime Minister about their personal experiences and their dreams for the future.
Says Paula, “These young women and their families are so inspiring; you can’t help but want to to be part of the fight against cancer. HALO is grateful to work with CCS as they lead the best cancer research in Canada and critical support services like camps for kids with cancer, telephone support lines as well as as transportation services and lodges for patients in treatment.” Paula has been working with the Executive Team at the Canadian Cancer Society since they merged with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in early 2017.
